This painting tells the story about how the white raven brought fire to earth causing an end of an era. In doing this the white raven was turned black by the ash and soot. Some old legends say this is how ravens became black. With this ending, came a new beginning of spiritual times for earth. So for many, white ravens are symbols of the end, and new beginnings. A perfect symbol to end the year with and start a new.

I painted this with photo references I took myself of the majestic white raven that has been hanging around Alaska. Encountering this bird was so inspiring. I probably only spent a couple minutes with it but the impact was immense. It has inspired me and many others to make art and gather to photograph it. I would say it’s famous at this point. Of course there was a ton of excitement in seeing this white raven in person. A once in a lifetime event, but since then I can’t help but to think of this old prophecy of fire and ash and what it means to me.
